This practice defines the use in service of unique material identifiers (UMIDs) in production and broadcast environments. The UMID is one of a number of unique identifiers defined in the forthcoming SMPTE metadata dictionary, SMPTE RP 210. The UMID separately identifies picture, audio, data, and other essence.
