Formerly S82.02.01-1999. A modified version of IEC 61010-1. Specifies general safety requirements for electrical equipment intended for professional, industrial process, and educational use, including equipment and computing devices for measurement, control, laboratory use, accessories intended for use with those mentioned (e.g. sample handling equipment). The purpose of the requirements of this standard is to ensure that the design and methods of construction used, provide adequate protection for the operator and the surrounding area against electric shock or burn, mechanical hazards, excessive temperature, spread of fire from the equipment, effects of radiation (including laser sources, sonic and ultrasonic pressure, and liberated gases), explosion or implosion.
