The Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA) publish a range of guidancedocuments to assist its members and industry as a whole. In 2002 it published EEMUA 201 "Processplant control desks utilising human-computer interfaces - Guide to design, operational andhuman-computer interface issues." An updated second edition was published in 2010.
This current third edition of EEMUA 201 was produced in response to changes in technologyand practice across industry. As well as updating the existing content it was decided to developthe document so that it provides a more complete guide for the designing of Control Rooms toinclude the building, physical aspects of the Control Room, working environment, Console design,and control system graphics. Also, to cover emerging issues including devices used outside of theControl Room and security and provide a stronger focus on human factors.
The aim of the current update is to provide improved guidance to people involved in the designof Control Rooms. Also, when evaluating the design of Control Rooms, both during new-build andmodification projects; and to evaluate existing Control Rooms.
EEMUA 201 is not a standard and is not intended to replace any. Designers will be expected toidentify and adhere to any standards and regulations and any company and project specifications.The intention is that EEMUA 201 will provide guidance on how this can be achieved in the mosteffective way.
